Only The Savior

Every song I've ever written is usually inspired by some stand-out moment in my life. Have I written songs about break ups? Of course. If Taylor Swift can do it so can I. Have I written about the good relationships I've had in my life? Of course. Go listen to my song Same Old Love Story or One Moment if you're looking for something uplifting.
There was one relationship, however, that I don't think I really focused on as much as I should have, especially since I was very skilled in the art of teenage self-absorption. When I was nineteen, and living with my parents in Thatcher, AZ I woke up one morning feeling like I'd spent an awful lot of time distancing myself from a very important person in my life. As I analyzed my relationship with my Savior I started to write down what I brought to the table on one side of the page and what he brought to the table on the other. My side of the page was practically blank.
I was a black hole. One of those friends who takes and takes instead of giving more to the relationship. I looked at the other side of the page and realized what the Savior brought to the table was beautiful, and wonderful and fairly poetic.
I needed some quiet time to put my thoughts into lyrics, but everywhere I went I was bombarded with noise. I decided to lock myself inside my parents shower where there happened to be a nice little bench to sit down on. So wonderfully convenient.
That's where I wrote Only The Savior...in my parents shower. I figured if it was okay for Jesus to be born in a stable then this song about him could be born in a shower. I think he would have approved of such humble beginnings.
